A review of VPAP campaign finance data indicates that Cleon Long’s largest single contribution—totaling $6,800—was received through the local PAC Newport News Forward rather than directly from an individual donor.
Examination of the PAC’s funding sources shows that its single largest contributor is David Brakman, who has provided $8,000 of the $17,450 the PAC has raised since 2021.
Public Facebook activity suggests that Brakman is an active and visible supporter of Tidewater DSA, the local chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America. He regularly shares the chapter’s events, fundraisers, news, and training announcements.
